#OneWord2019: The Year of Momentum

It’s been some time since I last posted, and you can thank working full time and accomplishing graduate studies for that. But alas those tasks are the core of why I chose the word Momentum to represent my goals and aspirations of 2019.

In January 2018, I was beginning my second semester at the University of South Florida in the Masters program of Instructional Design and Technology, while teaching full time at a brand new school.
At this point in the school year I was having some internal struggles- between the work load, stress of adjust to new procedures, having various challenges in my classroom, and loosing the time for my relationships and myself. I knew it would all be worth it because I had my goals in motion! In hindsight, I acknowledge I was overwhelmed at the time which is, ironically, where I often to do my best. While adjusting to teaching at my new school, I couldn’t begin to count the number of times I heard from fellow teachers, administration, and sometimes even family, “You’re taking on too much…” and perhaps they were right- but I knew that this is the path I had to follow to accomplish my goals. I have always been an active member online and within my school community, and this year was no different. I maintained the same level of professionalism and responsiveness I always offered my classroom families. I work hard every single day to build a strong and trusting community with parents, and a family with my students. Hearing “I don’t know how you do it all” is nothing new to me. When you have a passion for what you do and goals you wish to achieve, you just make it happen!

Maya Angelou’s wisdom inspires me every single day

And you know? After 12 months, we are now in January 2019. I am in my final semester of graduate school and in a new position at my school, I was right- it was worth it! My workload has not decreased but my resolve has strengthened. As my momentum continues steadily forward, I reflect at the inner strength that has emerged from the momentum of the past year. I moved on and grew from the challenges of 2018. I have had more opportunities to develop and facilitate district wide training’s with some of my dearest friends, plan and implement a school-wide Makerspace, work toward certification for teaching gifted, contract as an Instructional Designer for an amazing company and Director of Learning, and so much more…

This year I will accomplish many personal goals like taking better care of my body and mind and professionally, momentum will lead me to the path I am meant to follow. I am in full support of following your dreams, but I also believe that when you reach for the stars you grab the one that’s meant for you. Big changes are to come for me, uprooting me out of my comfort zone. I have little solidity as to where precisely that will land me, but I have set my sails and picked up momentum! I encourage you, whatever your “it” is this year, just make it happen!
